Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker, Reviews

/

As beautiful as sculpture, as fascinating as chemistry, and as entertaining as theater, this coffeemaker from Switzerland converts the ordinary process of brewing coffee into an artful performance. And it makes six 5-ounce cups of full-flavored coffee while it entrances. The coffeemaker fits together like this: water goes into the carafe, a filter fits into the mouth of a tube in the top globe, ground coffee goes into the globe (a scoop is included), the globe fits atop the carafe with the tube extending into the carafe, and the carafe goes onto the stovetop with a trivet or heat diffuser between it and electric or gas heat. (This is all much simpler and quicker than it sounds.)
Water boils up through the tube into the globe and brews the coffee. When brewing is complete and the carafe has been taken off the stovetop and set into its accompanying sculpted trivet, the coffee drains through the filter into the carafe. The globe can then be lifted off the carafe and set on its stand, and coffee can be poured from the carafe, which has a stay-cool handle. A stopper for the carafe keeps second cups warm while the first cups are sipped. Fully assembled, the coffee maker stands 11-1/2 inches high. It's made of heat-resistant glass and durable, gleaming nylon, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

"I'm not all that picky when it comes to the quality of my coffee, but even I have to admit that this product makes really good coffee. I actually use it more often to make tea, using loose tea leaves instead of coffee grounds - it works perfectly for making either beverage. I love that this coffee maker goes straight onto the stove rather than plugging into a wall, and it's fascinating to watch everything happen through the clear glass. It's very easy to use. It's an elegant piece of kitchen equipment too, so I don't mind having it out on my counter all the time.

Some reviewers have commented about the fragility of this product, but I've used it daily for months and haven't had a single problem. I'm very clumsy and the box was mangled when it arrived too, so I can't imagine how you could easily break this coffeepot. I've dropped it in my sink, knocked it against the counter, or dropped it hard onto the burner several times and I have yet to experience a break.

There is one minor downside to the Bodum Santos coffeemaker: because there is no heating element in the pot itself, it doesn't stay warm as long as an electric coffeepot would. However, you can keep it hot for quite a while if you put the lid on the carafe after it finishes brewing. I think it's a small price to pay for a coffeemaker that works so well and makes such excellent drinks. I haven't used my electric coffeemaker once since my Santos arrived because it just doesn't make coffee as well.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone who wants to make a good cup of coffee at home. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I know I'll enjoy this coffeemaker for a long time." See More reviews....

I love coffee, for me is a staple food and beverages. I have a perfectly ordinary filter coffee maker with thermos (stock and so * g *) and so little coffee maker for the stove. The drip coffee is the standard for a day. And if I want to make something nice, then I craft a latte macchiato with coffee making facilities. Works beautifully, tastes good and is there at Ikea for little money in mini, medium and large.

About this pad machines I've already been thinking, but rejected the idea for several reasons again: First, it created so significant costs through the pads, especially if one likes to drink several cups a day of it. Second, is such a part, too limited to offer visitors something good, as each cup is prepared individually. Since the first is cold, though the last one his coffee. And thirdly, my mom has dealt intensively with coffee machines, espresso machines and pad machines. Their conclusion was then a high-quality, but just espresso machine reduced with proper heat and pressure to buy, since pad machines do not deliver the desired outcome and fully automatic either extremly expensive, or create but not enough heat and pressure to clean or super complicated be. What goes with my mom from the machine, is really an espresso as he was known by professionals from Italy.

If you treat something special you really want, rather then saving on a real, good espresso machine. This one is for coffee lovers on a permanent basis really a lot happier than with this pad compromises. And for the transitional period there is indeed the mocha maker Ikea * g *.

Bodum 1308-16 Columbia 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal Press Pot, Reviews

The Bodum stainless steel tea and coffee press pot is fantastic. I recommend it without reservation or hesitation. Get one for yourself and additional ones for birthday and Christmas gifts.

Experts and snobs will tell you that using a French Press is the best way to make coffee and tea because it does not filter out flavor you want and need from the grounds and leaves. And this press pot is much more effective and durable than the traditional glass models.

The double wall steel keeps the coffee hot during steeping. And the filter is so well made and fine that it allows you to use regular coffee grounds (as opposed to the coarse grounds recommended when using most French Presses) without a speck of sediment getting into your cup after pouring, which has two advantages: First, it makes it easier for those of us who do not have an expensive burr coffee bean grinder to make coffee (so I can buy ground coffee and then store it in a container I vacuum seal after every use - since air and moisture are the enemies of coffee beans and grounds); and, second, it allows you to use a finer ground coffee, which enhances the flavor of the beverage.

This press pot is also a cinch to clean and appears very durable. Finally, the pot is good looking itself.

I am getting great results using two level scoops (using the plastic scoop included) of ground coffee per 12 ounces of water and then steeping for 4 minutes using water that has just come to a boil.

As an additional tip, especially for those who like their coffee and tea piping hot and want to keep it that way as long as possible, purchase some Bodum double wall glass cups or mugs. The double wall construction and German borosillicate glass (medical grade glass that is vastly superior to traditional soda-lime glass) keep beverages extra hot and extra cold for the longest possible time and are well worth the money you pay for them.

Ideal for home or office, this French press coffeemaker doubles as an insulated thermos so coffee stays hot and fresh for up to two hours. It's made of stainless steel polished to a mirror-finish, has a large, comfortable handle, and is dishwasher-safe. The lid seals in heat remarkably well and turns to prevent heat from escaping through the spout between pours. The pot stands 8-1/2 inches high, including the plunger top.

Review :

"I bought this several weeks ago and I am using it everyday. It is much better than a drip coffee maker because of the direct contact of the coffee grounds. You can use less coffee than the amount needed for a drip coffee maker. For the outside appearance, it is beautiful and sturdy. For the inside design, the mesh never lets grounds skip into your coffee. A special feature of vacuum stainless steel is the one I like best. It is a 8-cup volumn French Press and can keep the rest of coffee hot in the bottle (I didn't calculate the exact time period). I don't like extremely hot coffee, so it is hot enough for me after around an hour. A very good product that I will recommend to any coffee lovers."

You can choose a grinder that works in two ways. The grinder is equipped with a hand crank on the side. You have to move the rope to the mill to grind coffee. But if you want to do a lot of work for the freshly ground coffee, you want to buy an electric coffee mill. The mill is the most popular coffee machines on the market today. Many grinders are small and inexpensive, so you can take anywhere, grind your perfect cup.

Benefits for grinding your coffee with a coffee grinder many. You can grind coffee that suits your taste and not based on packaged coffee. Freshly designed with swooping curves, the black plastic frame on the New Kenya coffee press adds to the anticipation of the morning coffee. And good coffee indeed this press makes. Most aficionados agree that the French press, or plunger, style of coffee maker produces the smoothest cup of joe. Bodum makes the carafe itself of borosilicate glass, the lightweight, heat-resistant kind found in science labs, and the plunger and three-piece filter system of stainless steel. The plastic frame tightly wraps the glass beaker and protects your table from its heat. The lid is also plastic.
To make coffee in the New Kenya, put in the glass carafe one scoop of coarse-ground coffee beans per every four ounces of brewed coffee you intend to make. Add nearly-boiling water, stir with a silicone spatula, and place the filter-plunger-lid unit in the top. After four minutes of brewing, slowly press down on the plunger. Pour, and enjoy. Use the same spatula to scrape the grounds out afterward, and rinse out the carafe and assembly. All the parts are dishwasher-safe as well. This size makes 17 ounces of coffee, which equals approximately two mugs or four after-dinner cups. --Ann Bieri

Review :

"For about a year at my new job I have faced a daily dilemma: drink the nasty "cafe loma" (garbage coffee) for free, or pay $1.60 to refill my travel mug at the company coffee bar (they brew Starbucks and Seattle's Best). I was not familiar with the French press until seeing it at a restaurant, after which I did a little research and ended up with this model. I grind my beans every week (ok, ok, I know... I should grind every day... I'm not that motivated in the morning) and there is no question: even the Starbucks beans that someone gave me as a "gift" tasted better in the press than from the coffee bar. I like a variety of coffees so I am always trying something new; the Kenya has been a blessing for this task. Cleaning it in a work sink is kind of a pain ("NO GRINDS DOWN THE DRAIN!!" signs everywhere) but that is not the fault of the device. The only two "heads ups" I'll give are that 1) the filter screen has a sharp "thread" poking out that has stuck me a couple of times (I am sure that this is a small defect, but something to be aware of) and 2) when they say "4 cups" that is actually "American" for "2 mugs". Other reviewers have pointed this out, but if you want to fill your oversized travel mug up in the morning, you might want to go with a larger unit. It's actually good for me because I don't need to be drinking that much coffee, anyway. I would suggest that, if you are on the fence, go for the larger one; you can always underfill it. Oh, and the other reviewers are right: empty the beaker within 15 minutes of brewing the coffee. If you leave it in any longer it starts to get bitter. I would also strongly recommend a good burr grinder; I use the Capresso basic model and it does a decent job. Once you have your Bodum and your burr grinder, you'll be on your way to being a true coffee snob (I am now shopping for home bean roasters, haha)." More reviews....
