This is much better than anything I have seen in the store. Granted I didn't go from store to store, so decided to purchase on line. It is a great looking, well functioning coffee maker. It is a very nice looking red. The decanter is comfortably large and drip free....which was one of the most important features to me. The water arm is trouble free and not even worth a mention except in one or two of the other reviews it was a negative, but so easy to become accustomed to that it amazed me that anyone could think it was a problem. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it but am still waiting for the permanent coffee filter which according to delivery information takes about 10 days from order date. No problem, used paper filters till I get it. Thought the permanent coffee filter was worth the extra money. They stay relatively clean as I have used others. The programming is a snap and you really don't even need the manual as one of the other reviews pointed out. The coffee it brews is just as good as any other and really depends on the coffee you choose. It also serves a nice hot cup of coffee. For a reasonable amount of money for a coffeemaker, I am well pleased and I say "GO FOR IT!"

My present coffee maker, a Braun has been just great, but it's starting to see better days and I am ready to move on to another brand for a change. The Braun lasted 2/3 yrs which was a good run, I think. Somehow I made the gold filter disappear and hence the need to move on. I've used and still use professional espresso machines at work for years, and this one is right up there. I couldn't believe the quality of crema and how easy and great the frothing wand was. For the money this machine cannot be beat. This is the real deal. The espresso is perfect, the foaming wand actually works better and more easily than many of the pro machines I've worked with (although I can make great foam with any of those too), which was definitely a pleasant surprise. Easy to use and smartly designed. I posted some photos of the espresso I had today.

I must say that I tried the Illy pods just to see how they worked and found the crema lacking, once I switched to Illy loose Espresso gring (medium roast) I had perfect results most every time. So perhaps not the best for someone who wants to only use pods. But pods end up being more expensive anyways. The other thing that surprised me about this machine was that it does not stop the shot automatically, so you decide when your shot is finished. Good for some, perhaps a learning curve for others. I've always heard 20-30 seconds is the appropriate length of time to pull a shot.

"My husband loves coffee and he has been wanting an espresso machine for years. As our first Christmas together as husband and wife I wanted to give him one but was clueless about how to choose a good one.
This machine is not professional quality, but it is very good for a household, it is not too much problem to keep and maintain and it makes very good coffees.

You will have to turn it on ahead of time for it to warm up, but so with all the espresso machines. You need to clean it regularly so the filter does not clot (but not every day, we use an old tooth brush) and you have to be careful that it does not dry out. He always keeps about 1-2 inches of water in the reservoir. If it does dry out, the pump will have a hard time getting started again, but it is not a big deal, you just keep passing water until is ready to go gain.
