3 Cup Coffee Press

I always keep a spare Bodum carafe in the cupboard so I don't have to worry about rushing to find a replacement when the one I'm using gets broken. I've been using this French press for many years and am just now buying my 3rd carafe for the same reason: my husband is not so gentle with dishes when washing them and has broken so many things I've lost count.

Anyway, may I suggest to all who have had frustration over the size of the carafe: keep a spare, in its box, in your cupboard. When you have to replace a broken one, use the size/capacity/model number info from the box to reorder and you'll always have the correct replacement. And you won't go a day without your favorite French pressed coffee!

I don't think the glass is particularly fragile, but it is thin and warrants careful handling just like a wineglass does.

"I really like my Bodum coffee presses - I have two sizes, and was delighted to see I could replace the beaker separately. But watch out if you order a replacement beaker. My small one holds 3 of what I think are ordinary cups, so I ordered the 3 cup replacement beaker by mistake. Looks like my small one is actually an 8 cup unit, and my big one (which hold 5 of my cups) is a 12 cup unit. There is no info on the Bodum itself of how big it is, so if you don't remember, it takes some guesswork to figure out whether you have a "3", "8", or "12" cup Bodum.
Study the measurements carefully and get the closest match. The oz's held are the easiest way to tell, but of course if the beaker is broken you have a problem." More reviews....

Bodum 34-Ounce Coffee Press Glass Replacement Beaker, Reviews

I've had this grinder for 10 years and use it constantly. I buy all of my beans whole, so this little grinder has been well used. I purchased this grinder from a Spiegel outlet store in Chicago. At the time I was employed by them, so my incentive to buy this grinder along with a Krups coffee maker was my employee discount, without really doing any research or knowing anything about different brands of coffee makers/grinders. Both Krups products are still plugging away and making great coffee. The grinder has some minor limitations as stated in some of these reviews - such as longer grinding time - and the beans can also grind inconsistently (I've heard that is a consequence of the oval shape but I'm not sure if that is true). If you make sure your beans are at room temperature before grinding (for those of you who store beans in the 'fridge/freezer) that will help to lessen the wear on the blades. But it is a great value for the price, and highly recommended.

"I mill my Krups 203 Brown accession (a long, long time ago). It still works well when I bought it. Although not a bazillion bells and whistles or two degrees of grinding more expensive models, a little thought for me I want to crunch all that I have beans with a fine powder. Do not overfill the grinder that does put the beans in the cap then the mill upside down to connect to any of the beans. It cleans easily, although I recommend pulling the grinder before drying with a paper towel. Also, wash the top with water just like a pot of coffee to avoid adding unwanted taste soap. The few negative reviews, which puzzles me is easy to complain, as this machine. (A negative review also said that "the coffee is very, very hot and weak." I've had French presses before this one and they have yielded good quality coffee as well, but what my family and I like most about this one is that it is not glass. With the glass products, after many uses, the glass cracked and/or broke. I don't know if that was because of the way we handled the glass beakers or if it was because the glass beakers were not thick enough in the first place. At any rate, this particular French press yields an excellent coffee drink, and does not impart a metallic taste. The plunger/filter is high quality. The coffee press in general is sturdy and well built.

As an aside, if you have never treated yourself to a French press cup of coffee, you are missing out! I always take my coffee with a little sugar and cream, but with a French press brew, there is no need for either. The coffee is rich and strong, but is not in the least bitter or harsh. With this press, you can have an outstanding cup of black coffee along with your meal or morning snack without sugar or cream.

I add one heaping tablespoon of coarse-ground coffee per 8-oz. cup of near boiling water. (For this size model, that is 3 heaping or 4 level tablespoons of coarse ground coffee.) Let it sit for 4 minutes, then push the plunger/filter down to the bottom of the beaker. With this 28-oz model, you'll get two mugs of coffee at a time. Enjoy!

After researching and reading all the Amazon reviews about the various "french press coffee brewers", I chose the Frieling 0103 pot. I am more than happy with my perfect cup of coffee (took me three tries of measuring the coffee, brewing time lengths and slow plunging to get that perfect cup). Can you see the smile on my face.

I am an instruction follower so I am experiencing no problems. I do hand wash the pot and strainer with liquid soap, warm water and a good rinse after each use. To date there is no wear on the mesh nor any residue grinds in the mesh. I am using-up some gifted Seattle fine grind coffee and am surprised to see very few grinds in my cup (I will buy courser coffee grinds in the future).

OH..I would appreciate the liquid capacity would be noted in ounces rather than the number of cups it holds (coffee cup measurements differ). This pot holds 2 of my coffee cup sizes, not the mentioned 5-6 cups. I had to do further research to get the actual liquid capacity of about 23 ounces. This in no way took away from my giving this item a 5(+) rating--the quality is definitely there....

I do feel a little guilty about spending so much money on this frivolous gift for myself, although I don't worry about breakage, malfunction and the coffee is very good....maybe after a couple of years the guilt will go away.
